Abstract

Kaum wanita merupakan sebahagian sumber penting yang boleh digemblengkan bagi mencapai agenda pembangunan negara. Tuntutan kehidupan pada hari ini menjadikan golongan wanita perlu mempunyai kerjaya sebagai sokongan kepada keperluan keluarga. Sehubungan itu, proses industrialisasi dan urbanisasi telah meninggalkan kesan terhadap peranan wanita dalam masyarakat yang menyebabkan wanita mula bekerja di luar rumah dan mula terlibat dalam bidang-bidang profesional. Scenario ini telah mencetuskan konflik peranan dalam kalangan wanita berkerjaya. Justeru, kertas kerja ini akan mengenalpasti hubungan antara konflik peranan dengan sokongan sosial dan kesejahteraan emosi wanita dwi-peranan di Lembah Klang. Seramai 283 orang responden telah terlibat dalam kajian ini dan bertindak sebagai sampel kajian. Kaedah persampelan yang digunakan adalah persampelan purposif, dengan meletakkan beberapa kriteria yang tertentu kepada responden yang akan dipilih sebagai sampel kajian. Hasil kajian mendapati terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara konflik peranan, sokongan sosial dan kesejahteraan emosi wanita dwi-peranan. Ia menjelaskan bahawa konflik peranan yang tinggi dan sokongan sosial yang rendah boleh menurunkan tahap kesejahteraan emosi. Oleh itu, amat penting bagi wanita dwi-peranan mengetahui kaedah dan penyelesaian yang boleh dilakukan bagi mengurangkan konflik peranan yang dihadapi, dalam masa yang sama memperolehi sokongan sosial yang tinggi. Strategi daya tindak yang berkesan mungkin antara pengantara yang boleh meningkatkan tahap kesejahteraan emosi mereka. Kerjasama dan keprihatinan daripada pasangan, keluarga, majikan dan masyarakat juga boleh membantu wanita dwi peranan untuk mengurangkan konflik peranan, seterusnya mencapai kesejahteraan emosi yang optimum.

ABSTRACT

Women play an important role in national development agenda. Nowadays, women need to have a career to fulfill the basic needs of their family. Thus, industrialisation and urbanization process affects woman’s role in the society as women start to work outside, and begin to involve in professional sectors. This scenario has triggered role conflict among working women. Therefore, this article will identify the relationship between role conflict, social support and emotional well-being among dual-role women in Lembah Klang. A total of 283 respondents has involved in this study as research sample. Purposive sampling method was used, by specifying a few criteria to the potential respondents. This study found that there are significant relationships between dual-role woman’s role conflict, social support and emotional well-being. It portrays that the women’ level of emotional well-being are effected if the role conflict is high and the social support is low. Hence, it is important for dual-role women to determine methods and solutions to scale down the role conflicts, at the same time, gaining more social support from the significant ones. Good coping skills can act as a mediator that can boost up their emotional well-being. Coorperation and concern gained from the spouses, families, employers and community can help dual-role women to minimize the role conflict, and achieving optimum emotional well-being.
