A Systematic Review On Gender Differences In Body Dissatisfaction

Commonly, body dissatisfaction can be considered as a woman’s psychological issue. A systematic review of previous studies between 2008-2018 was related to gender differences between males and females on body dissatisfaction. The search engine of electronic data such as EBSCOhost was used to search published English articles between 2008 and 2018. The articles were extracted and evaluated based on certain criteria. Of 14,407 articles, only 22 articles have been identified to meet the study criteria. This systematic review evaluates all stages of ages from childhood to adulthood and most of the studies have used self-report measures to measure body dissatisfaction. Results showed that there are differences in body dissatisfaction between males and females where females have shown a high level of body dissatisfaction than that of males.
Abstrak
Lazimnya, ketidakpuasan tubuh badan adalah isu psikologi yang dikaitkan dengan wanita. Kajian-kajian lepas yang diteliti secara bersistematik ini adalah berkaitan dengan perbezaan antara lelaki dan perempuan terhadap ketidakpuasan tubuh badan. Sebanyak satu pangkalan data elektronik yang digunakan iaitu Ebscohost untuk mencari artikel yang diterbitkan antara tahun 2008-2018 dan berbahasa Inggeris. Data-data telah diekstrak dan dinilai berdasarkan kriteria yang diperlukan. Daripada 14,407 rekod yang dikenalpasti, 22 artikel yang memenuhi kriteria yang menilai tentang ketidakpuasan tubuh badan. Kajian literatur bersistematik ini menilai kesemua peringkat umur daripada kanak-kanak sehingga dewasa tua dan kesemua kajian-kajian yang dipilih menggunakan soal selidik. Hasil kajian-kajian ini menunjukkan banyak kajian yang terdapat perbezaan antara lelaki dan wanita terhadap ketidakpuasan tubuh badan yang mana wanita menunjukkan skor yang lebih tinggi terhadap ketidakpuasan tubuh badan berbanding lelaki.
