The journal published twice annually (May and November) is given the name of the great-grandfather of the Selangor Sultan, HRM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ibni Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah ibni Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah ibni Sultan Alauddin Sulaiman Shah.</p> <p>Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) is a Higher Islamic Education Institution, fully owned by Selangor Islamic Council (MAIS) that is established under the 1996 Private Education Institution Act (Act 555). Its official establishment on February 15<sup>th</sup>, 1995 is a proof of the commitment of the Selangor Government and MAIS in developing the education agenda and knowledge excellence. Meanwhile, the Core Studies Center (PPT) is established in 2013 as one of the branches of knowledge excellence institution that is developed with the aspiration of catalysing knowledge integration in establishing and strengthening the KUIS brand globally.</p> <p><a href="http://jsass.kuis.edu.my/index.php/jsass/about"><strong>READ MORE</strong></a></p> Fakulti Sains Sosial, KUIS en-US The Sultan Alauddin Sulaiman Shah Journal (JSASS) 2462-1692 Knowledge and Attitude on Basic Life Support Among Childcare Providers From Registered Childcare Centres in Shah Alam, Selangor: A Questionnaire Study https://jsass.uis.edu.my/index.php/jsass/article/view/306 <p>Background: Basic Life Support (BLS) is essential in emergencies, as it provides immediate care that can prevent fatalities, reduce the severity of medical conditions, and improve survival rates before professional help arrives. The increasing number of children in day care centres makes it clear that safety and emergency preparedness must be improved. While childcare providers are the first responders to emergencies such as airway obstruction or cardiac arrest, many childcare providers lack sufficient knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Although Malaysia has required first aid training for childcare providers since 2013 as part of the PERMATA Childcare Course (KAP), CPR certification is still not mandatory. Recent guidelines from the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development now require the presence of at least one staff member certified in CPR to improve safety in childcare settings. Objectives: This study aims to measure the childcare providers’ BLS knowledge and attitudes using a questionnaire, identify knowledge gaps and areas where additional training or education in BLS may be needed, and explore factors that may influence childcare providers’ attitudes towards BLS training and its implementation in childcare settings. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted to assess the knowledge and attitudes of BLS among childcare providers in childcare centres in Shah Alam.&nbsp; 210 participants took part in the study. A self-administered questionnaire, adapted from a previous study by Tamur et al. (2023), was used to collect data. Results: The study included 210 participants; 99.0% were female, and the largest group was 25–35 years old (44.8%). Most participants held a certificate/diploma (38.1%) or had completed secondary education (35.7%), which could influence their learning style and access to training. In addition, 78.6% of participants had already completed CPR training, indicating that childcare providers had a solid foundation of BLS training. The study revealed gaps in the participants' knowledge and skills in CPR. Only 32.4% of participants knew how deeply and quickly to compress the chest. While 66.7% knew the correct ratio of compression to breathing, only 17.6% recognised the correct compression rate. Previous CPR training had a significant impact on knowledge (p=0.02), yet 39.4% of those trained still had poor knowledge. Most participants (98.1%) felt that CPR training should be mandatory, and 93.8% were in favour of more training. Childcare providers’ reluctance to perform CPR is due to a lack of knowledge, fear of harm, and legal concerns. Although 78.6% of respondents have attended training courses, more than half do not know where they can attend courses. Conclusions: This study reveals significant gaps in the CPR knowledge and skills of childcare providers in registered childcare centres in Shah Alam despite a high percentage (78.6%) having attended prior training. Although many participants knew the basic principles of CPR, critical deficiencies were identified, particularly in the depth, rate and frequency of chest compressions. The findings indicate that prior CPR training has a positive effect on knowledge (p=0.02), but a significant proportion of those trained still showed poor understanding. Most participants (98.1%) recognised the importance of CPR training and were in favour of making it mandatory. 93.8% expressed a desire for further training. However, uncertainty about where to access CPR courses remains a challenge. These findings highlight the need for improved training programmes, easier access to courses and more vigorous enforcement of CPR course certification requirements for childcare providers to improve emergency preparedness and child safety in day care settings.</p> Arfiza Abdul Razak MOHD SHARIKH DALI MAHAD Khairul Mazzura Mansor Copyright (c) 2025 The Sultan Alauddin Sulaiman Shah Journal (JSASS) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2025-11-30 2025-11-30 12 2 1 15 Kerelevanan Isi Kandungan Radio RTM Mirifm Dalam Kalangan Masyarakat Miri https://jsass.uis.edu.my/index.php/jsass/article/view/307 <p>Dalam konteks perkembangan media digital yang semakin mencabar kedudukan media tradisional seperti radio yang merupakan medium komunikasi massa tertua di Malaysia, masih memainkan peranan penting dalam menyampaikan maklumat, pendidikan, hiburan, serta memupuk nilai budaya kepada masyarakat. Namun begitu, wujud kebimbangan terhadap tahap kerelevanan radio, khususnya stesen RTM MiriFM, kerana masyarakat kini lebih terdedah kepada media sosial, penstriman audio, dan platform digital yang lebih interaktif. Jadi, objektif kajian adalah untuk menganalisis kerelevanan isi kandungan siaran radio RTM MiriFM dalam kalangan masyarakat Miri. Bagi mencapai matlamat ini, dengan menggunakan rekabentuk kuantitatif dengan kaedah tinjauan yang mana borang soal selidik digunakan, melibatkan 300 responden berusia antara 15 hingga 55 tahun dari lima kawasan sekitar Miri, iaitu Lutong, Pujut, Permyjaya, Piasau, dan Kampung Luak. Instrumen kajian terdiri daripada empat bahagian, dan data dianalisis menggunakan IBM SPSS Statistics 27 dengan tumpuan kepada analisis deskriptif. Hasil kajian menunjukkan skor min sederhana tinggi (3.73–4.38), dengan kekuatan pada aspek bahasa mudah difahami, pesanan khidmat masyarakat, dan mesej nilai murni, manakala item berkaitan pilihan utama masyarakat mencatat skor lebih rendah. Walaupun kepelbagaian ini sering dilihat sebagai potensi konflik, ia sebenarnya adalah satu kekuatan yang boleh menyumbang kepada perpaduan nasional sekiranya dikendalikan dengan bijak. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk meneliti bagaimana kefahaman dan toleransi antara agama serta budaya dapat menjadi asas kepada keharmonian sosial di Malaysia. Kajian ini mengupas peranan pendidikan, dasar awam dan interaksi sosial dalam memperkukuh perpaduan antara masyarakat yang berbeza latar belakang. Dengan menggunakan metodologi pendekatan kualitatif melalui analisis kandungan literatur akademik dan dokumen dasar kerajaan, artikel ini mendapati bahawa wujud keperluan mendesak untuk memperkasakan pendidikan antara budaya serta mewujudkan lebih banyak ruang dialog antara agama. Dalam dunia digital yang semakin terbuka, unsur budaya Jepun semakin biasa dalam kehidupan harian anak muda di Malaysia, menimbulkan persoalan berkaitan kesannya terhadap identiti budaya tempatan dan cara belia menyesuaikan pengaruh luar ini dengan nilai budaya sendiri.</em></p> <p><em>Tujuan utama kajian adalah untuk memahami bagaimana mahasiswa UIS menerima, menyesuaikan, dan menggabungkan budaya Jepun dengan budaya Malaysia serta bagaimana gabungan ini membentuk identiti baharu dalam kalangan mahasiswa. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan kaedah temu bual separa berstruktur melibatkan lima mahasiswa UIS yang aktif dalam budaya Jepun seperti peminat anime, cosplayer, dan peminat muzik J-pop.Kata kunci: Identiti, budaya Malaysia, budaya Jepun, pengaruh, mahasiswa UIS. Hasil temu bual menunjukkan bahawa unsur budaya Jepun diterima secara selektif. Aspek hiburan dan estetik seperti gaya berpakaian dan muzik mudah diterima dan disesuaikan, manakala nilai seperti agama dan hubungan kekeluargaan terus dijaga dengan rapi. Mahasiswa juga menunjukkan kreativiti dalam menggabungkan elemen budaya Jepun dengan budaya tempatan, contohnya melalui fesyen dan penggunaan bahasa.</em></p> <p><em>Secara keseluruhannya, kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa mahasiswa Malaysia mampu menyesuaikan diri dengan pengaruh budaya luar tanpa mengabaikan akar budaya sendiri. Climate change is notable, and SMEs, which are concerned with EIS (socio-economic), are at a real risk of being wiped out. To withstand these conditions and remain adequately performing, such SMEs will need to build robust, effective adaptation mechanisms. To this end, this conceptual paper examines the importance of strategic agility within the shifting landscape of dynamic capabilities and how it facilitates organizational survival and adaptation in such dynamic, turbulent settings as outlined. Engaging with both the Dynamic Capability Theory (DCT) and Circular Economy (CE) Theory, the paper proposes an integrated model in which strategic agility is captured as the mediating mechanism situated within the connection of the core three key antecedents: environmental scanning, resilience training, organizational ambidexterity and organizational adaptability as the outcome. The model also articulates the moderating influence of environmental turbulence on the above relationships, suggesting the increased importance of agility in responding.
