Life satisfaction is one’s evaluation towards their own life. This paper attempts to explore middle-aged career women’s perception towards life satisfaction in Hulu Langat, Selangor, with reference to hadith. The study employed a qualitative method, via in-depth interview to acquire input from the subjects. A total of 10 subjects had been selected through purposive sampling. They were middle-aged women at the age of 40 to 59 years old, working and living in Hulu Langat, Selangor, and have a fixed salary. The subjects had been selected from a varied educational background, employment, and health status to gain multiple perspectives of life satisfaction. Research inputs had been analysed by adopting thematic analysis technique. Research suggests all respondents agreed that having a religious spouse, spacious residence, comfortable vehicle and good neighbours affecting life satisfaction. However, different and various criteria are proposed by respondents. Criteria for a religious partner are pious, understanding and responsible. Meanwhile, spacious residence means ample rooms and living room for family activities. Meaning of comfortable vehicle, according to respondents is a vehicle that is convenient for everyday use but does not cause the financial burden. Finally, good neighbours are also important and contribute to life satisfaction. They must be trustworthy, greeting one another and respect others' privacy. Findings of this study provide inputs for the counsellor, social worker, and clinical psychology officer in planning programmes to enhance life satisfaction among women.
Abstrak
Kepuasan hidup merupakan penilaian seseorang tentang kehidupan yang sedang dilaluinya. Kertas kerja ini bertujuan meneroka kriteria kepuasan hidup wanita bekerjaya pertengahan usia di Hulu Langat, Selangor, berdasarkan kepada nas hadith. Kajian menggunakan kaedah kualitatif melalui teknik temu bual mendalam untuk mendapat input daripada subjek. Seramai 10 orang subjek telah dipilih melalui persampelan bertujuan. Mereka adalah wanita pertengahan usia yang berumur antara 40 hingga 59 tahun, bekerja dan menetap di Hulu Langat, Selangor dan berpendapatan tetap. Responden dipilih daripada pelbagai latar belakang pendidikan, pekerjaan dan status kesihatan untuk mendapat perspektif yang pelbagai mengenai kepuasan hidup. Input kajian dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis bertema. Kajian mendapati kesemua responden bersetuju bahawa pasangan yang soleh, kediaman yang luas, kenderaan yang selesa dan jiran yang baik mempengaruhi kepuasan hidup. Walau bagaimanapun, mereka mencadangkan kriteria yang berbeza dan pelbagai kepada domain-domain tersebut. Kriteria bagi pasangan yang soleh ialah beriman, memahami dan bertanggungjawab. Manakala kediaman yang luas bermaksud kediaman yang mempunyai bilik yang mencukupi dan ruang tamu untuk aktiviti keluarga. Kenderaan yang selesa pula menurut responden ialah kenderaan yang memudahkan urusan mereka tetapi tidak membebankan kewangan. Akhirnya, jiran yang baik juga penting untuk kepuasan hidup dan mereka mestilah boleh dipercayai, bertegur sapa dan tidak menganggu. Dapatan kajian ini memberi input kepada kaunselor, pekerja sosial dan pegawai psikologi klinikal dalam membantu mereka merancang program bagi meningkatkan kepuasan hidup wanita
